For my son’s first birthday party I created a theme centered around a collection of everyone’s favorite childhood books.
All the food was inspired from children’s classic books ranging from Ham and Cheese Sandwiches, see recipe here, and Green Deviled Eggs (Green Eggs & Ham), Meatballs, see recipe here, (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs), Pasta Salad (Strega Nona), Veggies (Runaway Bunny), Watermelon (Eating the Alphabet; Fruits & Vegetables from A to Z), and Goldfish Crackers (One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish).
Each table was centered around its own book theme. I found Cat in the Hat party hats, see here, which were a hit with the kids. On the Corduroy table we had a game to guess the number of buttons in Corduroy’s jar and a quiz on each table to test guests memory from classic children’s books.
The cake consisted of a small red cake and many multi-colored green cupcakes in the shape of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Many people asked me after the party, “did he really eat the cake.?” YES, of course he ate the cake!! He is my son!
Each guest received a small favor bag with chocolate chip cookies inspired from If You Give A Mouse A Cookie and a bookmark with wise words from Dr. Seuss.
The party was so much fun to prepare, plan, and enjoy!! It was a fun to reminisce and make new memories reading these classic children’s book with Taden.
Happy 1st Birthday Taden!!
