I am making up for lost time this year!! Since we have been married I have been in “busy season” working as a financial statement auditor and so Valentine’s Day was just another day to work 12+ hours. Geoff and I usually would exchange a corny card purchased the night before from Walgreens, maybe grab something quick to eat together, but that would be the extent of our Valentine’s Day adventures. I was just too “busy.” So, this year I am making up for it by showering my amazing husband with special treats for 14 days!!
Here are some of the fun things he has received thus far:
Day 1 – For my “stud muffin”
I woke up extra early one morning and made him his favorite blueberry muffins!!
Yummy Blueberry Muffins
What you will need – Muffin Mixture:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1/3 cup milk
1 cup blueberries
What you will need – Crumb Mixture:
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup butter, cubed
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
What you will do:
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Grease muffin cups or line with muffin liners.
- Combine 1 1/2 cups flour, 3/4 cup sugar, salt and baking powder. Combine vegetable oil, egg and milk in separate bowl. Mix this with flour mixture. Fold in blueberries.
- To Make Crumb Topping: Mix together 1/2 cup sugar, 1/3 cup flour, 1/4 cup butter, and 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon. Mix with fork.
- Fill muffin tins with Muffin Mixture, at least 2/3 full or can fill to the top for larger muffins, and sprinkle the Crumb Mixture on top before baking.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes in the preheated oven, or until done.
Day 2 – Because I love his “smooth-ie” moves
Geoff loves, loves this brand of smoothies. We rarely purchase it because it is expensive and I would rather make our own smoothies, but he definitely disagrees. This was a fun little, surprise treat for him!
Day 3 – Gift basket of his favorite things
Inside joke gift, but every time I go to the grocery store I ask Geoff if he needs anything. His reply is always “no, nothing,” to which I pick up nothing for him. A day or two after my big adventure to the grocery (it is always an adventure with a toddler!) he asks me if I picked up “X-item” for him, to which I obviously did not because it was not on my alphabetized, categorized list (the only way my shopping will get done!). This gift basket was filled with “the things I usually forget to pick up for him at the store.” It would be fun to also do a gift basket of all of his favorite things.
Day 4 – “I love you beery much” root beer case
Day 5 – “We love you to pieces” toddler craft
Day 6 – Personalized collar stays
Most of my gifts this week have been fun and silly gifts. I wanted todays gift to be more personalized and thoughtful. My husband wears a suit every day to work and I constantly fine his collar stays scattered all over our bedroom. I found these personalized stays and loved the idea hoping they would encourage him to keep better care and track of them. Little did I know this would be such a great gift to him! He has been eyeing these stays for some time and said “they were the best gift he has ever received” and then clarified, “other than his kids” (nice save!). Adding a little personalized, much needed gift was fun to think of and watch him open.
^^There are two already missing because he immediately wanted to try them on and then wouldn’t take them off, even for me to photograph. I think I hit the jackpot with this gift?!!
I purchased the collar stays here. There are a lot of fun, creative gifts to personalized on this site.
Next week I will have a recap of the remaining corny, silly, but fun gifts I am giving to my special someone this year!! It has been so much fun taking time to think of him each day and prepping the little gifts. He has even said that he thinks throughout the day what he will receive that evening (hopefully he is not making too high expectations because most are silly gifts!). Enjoy and get creative!!
What are you and your special someone doing for Valentine’s Day this year?
